Virtrese Ballard

Virtrese Ballard, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, FNP-C, is a dual board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with extensive experience in nephrology and chronic hemodialysis care. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, she began her healthcare career as a home health attendant and Certified Nursing Assistant before relocating to Virginia in 2007.

Virtrese continued her passion for nephrology as a dialysis technician while pursuing her nursing education. She earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from ECPI University in 2015 and worked as a chronic hemodialysis RN before expanding into pediatric nephrology at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD), where she specialized in pediatric dialysis and renal infusion services.

She later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and, in 2025, completed her Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner degree at ECPI University. She is dual board certified through both the AANP and ANCC.

In addition to clinical practice, Virtrese serves as Adjunct Faculty at ECPI University and is passionate about mentoring future nurses. Her professional interests include nephrology, chronic disease management, patient education, and compassionate, patient-centered care.

Outside of work, Virtrese enjoys traveling, bicycling, walking, and spending time with family and loved ones.
